brief
Design an interactive pdf that supports parents and NHS professionals while they support children during the COVID pandemic. Ensure it is engaging and easy to navigate, with quick links to online resources.

concept
The design concept centres around bright, happy and visually arresting illustration to engage the audience in a useful document that may otherwise be overlooked. The illustrations were drawn in a naive style to highlight that this is a document created for parents and healthcare professionals who are supporting the mental health of children. The illustrations also act as a navigation device throughout the document.

The colour palette was chosen to portray NHS Scotland as a trusted source of information, as well as the concepts of growth, learning, youth and care.

brief
Work within the university brand guidelines to reform and reshape the look and feel of University of Glasgow Sport. Add unique flavour appropriate to the personality, function and mission of the business unit, while incorporating a visual link to its history. 

Included in the guidelines are the sub-brand pillars, university brand identity, secondary identity mark, supporting graphics, aesthetics, layout examples, colour palette, icon styling, photographic styling and tone of voice.

The aim was to create a sub-brand that is crisp, clean, flexible, appropriate and inclusive.

être quarterly journal

concept
Market the être brand utilising the tenants of the brand philosophy: simplicity and authenticity. Marketing platforms included a website (with an online shop, blog, product gallery, brand philosophy and founder information), social media and journal mail-outs. All were designed to bring potential customers to the être online shop.

The Instagram campaign (pictured) ran over three weeks and featured the unique personalities of nine different neighbourhoods, asking the audience if each one was their #perfectplace. The call to action directed our audience to the être shop, where they could find a travel guide for the featured city.

The journal was a quarterly mail-out focusing on a different theme and être travel guide collection. It introduced any new or forthcoming products and each article directed the audience to a page of the être website.

The style reflects the edgy, modern approach to urban design this competition submission outlines. It is a clean, pared-back approach to layout design that draws on the central imagery and project material, and supports it in an unobtrusive fashion.

concept
The style and colours are soft and warm to reflect the sensitive subject and draw the audience in, with bright splashes of colour to create a striking visual when the illustrations are seen together or in isolation.

The group represented are a diverse set to ensure the target personas presented are as inclusively as possible.

Create engaging campaign collateral to attract new members to UofG Sport. Work within the university brand guidelines yet add a unique flavour appropriate to the personality of the business unit. Incorporate inviting imagery, easy-to-digest information and pared-back content to effect a clean, bright aesthetic attractive to the wide demographic UofG Sport caters to.

concept
The aesthetic reflects an optimistic approach to the new year and some traditional hallmarks of fitness marketing to ensure it is easily understood at first sight. The campaign includes bright imagery that emphasises the subject but approaches it with the ‘every-person’ in mind.

The marketing targets foot traffic and university social media audiences to bring potential new customers to the Sport website.

Redesign the template for a product selling the investment benefits of new developments; update the style within new brand guidelines; simplify the message and increase content readability. 

concept
The design style is strong, striking and corporate with a spirited edge. It uses bold colour, contrasting black and patterning to communicate visually what would otherwise be difficult to interpret.

The maps and info graphics are templates created in Illustrator to ensure each product created using this InDesign template is consistently styled and easy to produce. This is is achieved with a set colour palette, paragraph and character styles, an info graphic library and a strong brand presence.

The illustrations were designed as part of NHS Education for Scotland’s ‘Pharmacist Foundation Training Programme Competency Framework’, to emphasise each chapter of the resource and engage the audience in the content. The style is professional yet friendly, without being too casual, to reflect the subject of the framework. The concept was workshopped and sketched in collaboration with Kevin Allen from NHS Education for Scotland.

brief
Create a brand for a new book shop/cafe opening in Normandy close to Mont Saint Michel. Draw on the medieval history and seaside festival culture of the area to envision a brand appropriate for the type of establishment. The aesthetic of the shop was described as “grandma’s lounge room”, with an eclectic mishmash of styles and green plants.

Design an annual report that is professional and engaging, and reflects the content and subject of the report: practice-based small group learning for healthcare workers.

concept
The design concept utilises a clinical style to reflect the subject and content of the annual report. It uses icons and a palette that reflects the themes of the document, while adding a splash of bright yellow to create focus where needed and imbue the document with a sense of optimism. Sections that could be turned into info graphics were, to ensure an otherwise dry report is engaging and easy to digest.

brief
Design an inclusive guidebook for healthcare workers to refer to when treating people of all faiths. Be careful not to use religious imagery that may be offensive or inflammatory and ensure readability, particularly for long chapters. Design two versions, one as a printed booklet, the other an interactive pdf (only select sections of the print version are displayed here).

concept
The concept of this guidebook centres around inclusivity and diversity, while ensuring the subjects are treated with sensitivity. Each chapter of the document begins with a bright, colourful title page visually representing elements, beliefs, theories and structures within each religion. These symbols were carefully chosen and illustrated in an abstract style to ensure sensitivity, while reflecting the joy and cultural tapestry that can be found in each religion. The illustrations also serve as a navigation device throughout the document.
